The finals of the annual Cheer-O-Mania competition co-organized by the Singapore Kindness Movement took place last weekend at United Square Shopping Mall. Cheer-leading squads from Westwood Secondary School and Si Ling Primary School clinched the Gold award for the secondary category and the primary category respectively – and thrilled the crowds with their enthusiasm and high energy performances. The 2 winning schools will be appointed as Cheerleading Ambassadors of the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM).
The competition saw students sweating out atop human pyramids and acrobatic maneuvres as they put their hearts and souls into displaying interpretations of the theme, Be Thankful. They were judged based on their ability to create cheer routines in line with the competition’s theme. Additional points were given when the cheers were clear, rhythmic and loud and especially if the teams had visual and aesthetic creativeness.
The panel of judges included Dr.William Wan, General Secretary of SKM, Alaric Tay, local comedienne and television personality and Aslina Ngadi, local cheerleading instructor and residential judge of Cheer-O-Mania.
“It is interesting to see how this cheerleading competition has ignited passion and zest in youth for creating cheer and dance routines. Such enthusiasm displayed is infectious and has the ability to create an overspill effect that emotes happiness while encouraging people to carry out acts of kindness in their everyday lives.” Dr William Wan, General Secretary of the SKM.
