In a record-breaking year which saw a 50% increase in the number of entries, the SMA 2012 organizers were overwhelmed by a turn out of 450 guests, including senior executives of media owners, media agencies and clients, at the Awards show and Dinner held on Wednesday 5th September, a fitting climax to the media industry’s pinnacle awards for media professionals.
The coveted Grand Prix was presented to OMD Singapore for its entry “I need a snooze” for Ikano. The “Grand Prix du jury” is ‘Best of Show’ . . . . an award bestowed which celebrates an outstanding campaign exceeding clear high standards on all accounts.
MEC Singapore earned bragging rights as the newly crowned Media Agency of the Year 2012 and bagged the most winners, in Best Use of Digital, Best Use of Mobile, Best Use of Search, Best Use of Radio, Best Business to Business and Best Strategic Launch award categories. It swiped the Media Agency of the Year title from Mindshare Singapore, which held the crown since 2010.
Winners of special achievement awards were also announced. Marketer of the Year was presented to Sriramagopalan Desikan from HP Imaging & Printing Group. MediaCom scored a double hat-trick, with Rahul Vasudev and Prajat Khare winning the Media Person of the Year and Young Media Person of the Year, respectively. Alicia Luke from MediaCorp won The Media Sales Person of the Year award.
“Everything is in a constant state of evolution – consumers, media and even clients’ objectives. In such a challenging scenario, our industry needs to stay a step ahead in order to maximize the impact for clients. With every passing year, the Singapore Media Awards records a quantum jump in the quality of entries. We see fresh benchmarks being set with creativity surging to new heights. Digital media no longer resides on the fringes and is fast becoming the kernel of media strategy. It is very encouraging to see insightful and innovative use of digital media to drive business results for clients. Our industry has its own Usain Bolt’s and Feng Tianwei’s who will win for Singapore, many global accolades.”
