We are all heroes, no matter who we are. Beyond the touching stories
of struggles, trials and tribulations, this year’s President’s Star
Charity puts the spotlight on the brave and selfless individuals of
Singapore who overcame adversity and overwhelming obstacles to find
simple joys despite their circumstances, and to celebrate the hero in
them with courage.
Now into its 19th year, the PSC 2012 will be telecast ‘live’ on
Channel 5 on Sunday 14 October. It will be hosted by Soo Kui Jien and
Sharon Au, with one of last year’s performers, 11-year-old Adelyn Koh
from the Singapore Association of the Visually-Handicapped, assuming
the role of a co-host.
Award-winning Saint Andrew’s Junior School Choir, The Singing Saints,
will open the two-and-a-half hour entertainment extravaganza with a
rendition of “I’ll Be There”. Headlining this year’s President’s Star
Charity show is Grammy Award winning artiste Richard Marx. The iconic
singer-songwriter and producer has a long and illustrious career that
continues to shine and make waves in the music industry. International
artiste, Louis Hoover, labelled “Sinatra of the New Millennium” and
regional powerhouse vocalist from Hong Kong, Jenny Tseng, will also
grace the event with their classic renditions. Local favourites such
as Yi Ting, the Piccolo player and O School Dance troupe will
mesmerise the audience with a modern and classical performance and
K-pop dance medley respectively. A dynamic singing duo sensation by
Singapore Idol 2009 finalist, Sylvia Ratonel and guitarist Shun Ng
will perform a memorable song.
Multi-talented local celebrities Hossan Leong, Gurmit Singh, Daren Tan
and Sheikh Haikel will return with more oomph this year. Joining them
are Vasantham Star Shabir, Suria host Fauzie, as well as 13 year old
drum protégé Ethan Ong in a star studded performance with a new
arrangement and medley of songs. There will also be a special
performance by one of our oldest legendary jazz guitarist beneficiary,
Vivian Nonis, who will take to the stage with prominent jazz vocalist
Claressa Monteiro and singer Rahimah Rahim.
