Explosive Hari Raya Greetings, From McCann
When was the last time you received an actual greeting card? In today’s society, where our mobile phones have become extensions of ourselves, we usually receive festive wishes in the form of a message left for us on a social media or instant messaging platform. So much for sentiment.
Global marketing maestros, McCann Worldgroup Kuala Lumpur, still hang on to nostalgic traditions and have come up with an ‘explosive’ way to send out Hari Raya greetings to their clients this year – a ‘Kasi Gegar Meriam Buluh’ greeting card that is charmingly creative and an absolute delight to receive.
Faizal Reza, Digital Creative Director in league with Muhd Amin, the Bahasa Malaysia copywriter and Toby Thurston, Director of Technology embraced nostalgia together to come up with the exclusive Raya pack initiative. McCann wished for their clients to re-visit the past by bringing back the ‘Meriam Buluh’, or Bamboo Cannon to help celebrate a loud and exciting Hari Raya. To ensure no digits are lost in the fun, the ‘Meriam Buluh’ replicas that were sent only blast out harmless confetti to mimic the otherwise dangerous explosion.
To further integrate the initiative into this modern age, the team developed an online game to bring back the ‘Meriam buluh’ tradition. The virtual ‘meriam buluh’ in simple in its steps and completely engaging – you even get to customize your own cannon!
“So far the feedback has been great, the clients were thrilled to receive it because it was so unexpected,” Yasmin Mokhtar, Director of Client Services shared with us.“Personally, it’s reminiscent of my childhood when families and friends get together to play ‘bunga api’ and ‘mercun’ at night in anticipation of Hari Raya. Many times, we usually get competitive with our neighbours. I hope when someone receives this or comes across it on our Facebook page, they will feel 12 years old again and will want to create the loudest ‘bang’!” Yasmin went on to say.
McCann even provided heartfelt paragraphs of prose to celebrate the festivities.https://kl.mccann.com/hariraya/index.php/result
